01. Dancer’s bodies have to look a certain way

WRONG! There is no such thing as a Dancer’s body. For sure, the more dance and exercise you do, the healthier you become. But this doesn’t mean all dancer’s look the same or that they need to.

02. Learning to dance is hard

Learning always involves incorporating new knowledge and skills to your memory and/or your muscles. How quickly you learn is dependent on a number of factors, some of which include how much previous dance exposure you have had, how much you practice and the mental state you go into learning with. Therefore learning to dance is different for everyone, and even from dance to dance, some dances may be easier to learn for you.

03. Dancer’s are naturally talent

If you took a room full of people who have never taken a dance class before, some will be “naturally” better at picking up moves than others. This can be down to previous dance and music exposure, culture, mindset and other factors. But this doesn’t mean that dancer’s are naturally talented. Many have had hours of practice daily or weekly for years and work really hard at their craft. To pass it off as naturally talented is an insult to their craft, their effort, time and money. There, I said it.
