In this YouTube video, I talk about hand styling and movements. These are four common ways to finish of your hands when dancing a range of Latin American dance styles such as Salsa, Samba, Bachata, Cha Cha Cha, Rumba and more.

Hands are very important when you’re dancing for the following reasons:

  • makes your dancing look finished
  • makes you look more polished
  • makes you look like you know what you are doing
  • adds another dimension of movement
  • makes your choreography more interesting

On Strictly Come Dancing, a common comment from the judges is based on the dancers not “finishing off the line”. When the judges say this, it means that from the center of the body all the way through to the fingertips, they haven’t completed the movement. You haven’t finished it off with a nice hand styling.

In the video I go through four ways to style your hands, including my standard default hand and my all-time favourite hand position. A standard default hand is the hand position that my hands will “naturally” commit to when I don’t have set choreography for them. Of course, there is nothing natural about them, as they have been imprinted in through a lot of practice.
